Ever Wondered Why the PS3 Came a Year Later Than The 360 ?

IGN are reporting that the PS3 was originally scheduled to release alongside the Xbox 360 in 2005 without a GPU, with the cell processor handling all of the load. But then testing proved that this would be a disaster performance wise and a GPU was added, causing a year long delay.

“For a while, [PS3 had] no GPU, it was going to run everything with SPUs. The ICE team proved to Japan that it was just impossible. It would be ridiculous. Performance-wise, it would be a disaster. That’s why they finally added the GPU, closer to the end.”
